Bảo Lạc: “Warm Winter” Volunteer Program and the Launch of the 2024 Campaign “Joining Hands to Protect a Green – Clean – Beautiful Environment and Safeguard Our Hometown Rivers”

On the morning of January 20, the Bảo Lạc District Youth Union, in collaboration with the People’s Committee of Bảo Lạc Town and the Youth Union – Student Association of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), organized the volunteer program “Warm Winter” and officially launched the campaign “Joining Hands to Protect a Green – Clean – Beautiful Environment and Safeguard Our Hometown Rivers” for 2024.

The VNU delegation presented two youth projects — “Lighting Up Rural Roads” and “A Playground for Children” — to the Bảo Lạc District Youth Union.

The event was attended by Hứa Thanh Hoa – Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Secretary of the VNU Youth Union, Deputy Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department, and head of the VNU delegation; Hà Ngọc Huy – Deputy Secretary of Cao Bằng Provincial Youth Union; Hứa Thị Thu – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Bảo Lạc District Party Committee; representatives from the District People’s Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the Propaganda Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Bảo Lạc High School; as well as leaders of the town’s Party Committee, People’s Committee, People’s Council, Vietnam Fatherland Front, and various local organizations. The event also welcomed around 250 youth members from Bảo Lạc High School and the town’s grassroots Youth Union.

During the event, Hoàng Văn Bảo, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the Town People’s Committee, launched the 2024 campaign “Joining Hands to Protect a Green – Clean – Beautiful Environment and Safeguard Our Hometown Rivers.” He called on agencies, organizations, youth members, and local residents to actively participate in environmental protection efforts, especially by supporting the national program “One Billion Trees (2021–2025)” initiated by the Prime Minister. He also emphasized the importance of forest protection, restoration, and conservation to improve biodiversity and develop sustainable livelihoods for local communities.

Overview of the launching ceremony.

At the event, the VNU Youth Union Standing Committee and the VNU Student Association Secretariat donated two youth-led projects (“Lighting Up Rural Roads” and “A Playground for Children”), as well as scholarships and gifts for underprivileged students and families in Bảo Lạc District. The total value of the program exceeded 1 billion VND.

On this occasion, the Bảo Lạc District Youth Union also delivered five Tet gifts to disadvantaged youth members in the town, sourced from the “For the Poor” Fund ahead of the 2024 Lunar New Year (Giáp Thìn).

As part of the event, Dr. Bùi Thị Thanh Hương – Deputy Executive Director of the VNU Scientists’ Club, lecturer in Climate Change and Sustainable Development, and an environmental education specialist promoting the “green school” and “zero-waste school” models – shared insights to raise environmental awareness among participants. She also provided guidance on household organic waste treatment models. On this occasion, the delegation donated 100 packages of organic waste treatment microorganisms to the Bảo Lạc Town People’s Committee.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, more than 600 youth members participated in the “Volunteer Saturday” campaign, demonstrating their enthusiasm, creativity, and sense of responsibility in environmental protection and climate change adaptation. Activities included cleaning the environment, collecting and removing trash, and cleaning up the river that flows through Bảo Lạc town as part of the campaign’s kick-off.

Youth members participated in a cleanup drive, collecting and disposing of waste to clean the hometown river after the campaign launch.

The program reflected the spirit of Bảo Lạc’s young generation — proactive, creative, and committed to volunteering — raising public awareness, supporting community participation in building new-style rural areas and civilized urban spaces, and protecting the local environment for future generations.
