Smart Refill- automatic liquid refill machine

Smart refill, which use solar energy, is a liquid refill machine that allows users to use personal water bottles or paper cups to reduce plastic waste.

The project contributes to supporting businesses in implementing extended producer responsibility (EPR) according to the Decree 08 in the context of implementing the 2020 Environmental Protection Law, which will take effect from January 1, 2024. At the same time, the project also supports the community in forming consumption habits to reduce plastic packaging by not using or reusing chemical packaging for Vietnamese people. In particular, the project supports the formation of new business models – green supply chains in the current green and circular economy context in Vietnam.

The supply chain of automatic liquid vending machines powered by solar energy was invented by experts from the Department of Climate Change and Sustainability Science, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Sciences. The software “Smart Refill – green consumption management to reduce plastic waste” together with a microchip controlled by IoT technology has supported the formation of green consumption habits for everyone who interacts and uses the machine.

Smart Refill has a compact size, light, flexible, combined with a roof of solar panels that can hold at least 600 products and provide 500 liters of drinking water of all kinds, ensuring hygiene, standards of current beverage suppliers on the market. Cooling system:

7” touch screen;
Payment system: cash (even denominations: 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000), QR code via Vnpay gateway, RFID card

Smart Refill helps reduce plastic waste packaging by supporting businesses that produce consumer chemical products (floor cleaner, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, etc.) to distribute products directly to consumers using the system. Automatic, intelligent refilling machine system, based on the application of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, allowing personalization of service according to customer needs, while still ensuring supply chain management in the system.
